The Spectacle

The Oder short film day

The OderKurzfilmtag is a short film festival in the German state of Brandenburg, which will take place at 4th November 2023 at the Theater am Rand. For one Saturday the famous wooden theater, Theater am Rand, far away from civilization near the Polish border, is transformed into an island of exceptional short films of all genres and a refuge where the films can be discussed and reflected upon. One of the most important goals of the festival is to strengthen the role of films in rural areas. Consequently we want to present high quality productions far from large metropolitan areas.

Our spectacle encompasses a children’s program and a night program with short films from all over the world. Every year, a team of volunteers travels to festivals and searches various film portals to find short films worth seeing for you. These are viewed, discussed and evaluated from various points of view. Every year, children of different ages participate in the final selection of films for the children’s program, so that fun and adventure are guaranteed.

At 3:30 p.m. we start with the admission. The children’s program starts at 4 pm. Children over 4 years old are welcome to bring their parents and grandparents. At 6 p.m. the evening program starts. As every year, the short films will be presented in three blocks with a wide range of themes, genres and styles. Foreign language films will be subtitled in German.

In March 2016 the “Randwirtschaft” Bar and Restaurant was opened. Besides a small selection of menu items, the bar serves cocktails in a very special setting.

Entrance Fee

There is no fixed entrance fee and at the end of the evening, the audience donates whatever contribution they choose. Depending on the performance, the recommended exit price is between 15 and 25 euros. Pay what you think we need! Unfortunately, card payment is not possible.

The Theater

The Theater am Rand is located far from metropolitan areas, on the eastern border of Germany, in a region named the Oderbruch, in the village of Zollbrücke. The characteristic landscape of the area dictates the rules of the game. Simplicity. Professionalism. Handmade, wooden theater in various stages of evolution. Actors and owners of the theater are Tobias Morgenstern, accordian player, and Thomas Rühmann, actor, who are realizing many different projects of their own design.
