The Oderkurz Film Spectacle
The OderKurz-Filmspektakel is a short film festival in the German state of Brandenburg, which will take place at 12th November at the Theater am Rand. For one Saturday the famous wooden theater, Theater am Rand, far away from civilization near the Polish border, is transformed into an island of exceptional short films of all genres and a refuge where the films can be discussed and reflected upon. One of the most important goals of the festival is to strengthen the role of films in rural areas. Consequently we want to present high quality productions far from large metropolitan areas.
Our spectacle encompasses both a national and international competition, a children’s program and a night program. The winning films of this year’s competition will be shown in fall in our Rolling Cinema in seven east German cities.
There is no fixed entrance fee and at the end of the evening, the audience donates whatever contribution they choose. Pay what you think we need!
In March 2016 the “Randwirtschaft” Bar and Restaurant was opened. Besides a small selection of menu items, the bar serves cocktails in a very special setting.
Also available on site is a small campground. For those, who would prefer their own bed, it is possible to book a local room through the “Schlafplatz am Rand” agency.
The Theater
The Theater am Rand is located far from metropolitan areas, on the eastern border of Germany, in a region named the Oderbruch, in the village of Zollbrücke. The characteristic landscape of the area dictates the rules of the game. Simplicity. Professionalism. Handmade, wooden theater in various stages of evolution. Actors and owners of the theater are Tobias Morgenstern, accordian player, and Thomas Rühmann, actor, who are realizing many different projects of their own design.
